Discovering Active Directory Forest

DynamicPacks Health Profiler works with Active Directory Forest objects such as Domains, Active Directory Forest, Sites and Domain Controllers. You must discover Active Directory Forest before you can use DynamicPacks Health Profiler. This article explains how to discover Active Directory domains, Forest, Sites and Domain Controllers.

DynamicPacks Health Profiler works with Active Directory Forest objects such as Domains, Active Directory Forest, Sites and Domain Controllers. You must discover Active Directory Forest before you can use DynamicPacks Health Profiler.

To discover the Active Directory Forest, Domains, Sites and Domain Controllers, follow steps listed below:

  1. Click on “Active Directory Configuration” tab in the Configuration pane as shown in the screenshot below:

2. Type the Active Directory Forest name you want to discover in the “Active Directory Forest” text box.

3. Click on “Save” button.

4. And then click on “Start Discovery” button.

DynamicPacks Health Profiler will connect to Active Directory Forest that you specify in the “Active Directory Forest” text box and then pull the list of domains, Active Directory Sites and Domain Controllers. You will see a success message once the discovery process has finished successfully as shown in the screenshot below:

In case of any errors during discover, please check .\DPConfig\ADConf\DiscoverErrors.ERR file.

If you wish to add Active Directory Domains, Forest Name, Sites and Domain Controllers manually, please add as below:

  • Domain name one per line in .\DPConfig\ADConf\DomainList.DPC
  • Domain Controller name one per line in .\DPConfig\ADConf\DCList.DPC
  • Site name one per line in .\DPConfig\ADConf\SiteList.DPC
  • Active Directory Forest Name in.\DPConfig\ADConf\ForestName.DPC

DynamicPacks Health Profiler stores user files at C:\ProgramData\DynamicPacksTechnologies folder.
